Essential legal guidance for field workers in Karachi Katchi Abadis and Punjab rural districts.

1. Identity & CNIC Rights
The Right: Every citizen over 18 is entitled to a CNIC. It is the key to all government aid and school enrollment.
Field Action: If a birth certificate is missing, use school records or a blood relative’s CNIC to verify identity at NADRA.
2. Police & FIR (First Information Report)
The Right: Police are legally bound (Sec 154 CrPC) to record your complaint. It is free. You have a right to a free copy.
Field Action: Accompany the resident to the station. Ensure the FIR is stamped. Do not leave without the paper copy.
3. Housing & Eviction Protection
The Right: Notified Katchi Abadi residents have a right to a lease. No one can be evicted without a 30-day written notice.
Field Action: Collect and save utility bills (K-Electric/Gas) as legal “Proof of Possession” for land regularization.
4. Protection of Women
The Right: Domestic violence is a crime under the Sindh Domestic Violence Act. Survivors have a right to safety and shelter.
Field Action: Prioritize a “Medico-Legal” exam at a hospital. This is the strongest evidence in a court of law.
